Unit 6: Project Scheduling

Now, we are ready to get down to the serious business of project scheduling.

In this unit, we will bring together our WBS and estimates of time to build a schedule, calculate a critical path, and express this information in the most recognizable output of the planning process: the Gantt chart.

We will then introduce you to some more advanced scheduling techniques, including:

  • Resource leveling
  • Fast-tracking, and
  • Crashing

…and give you practical examples of their application.

As you will see, the mathematics that underpins project scheduling are quite simple and elegant; the project manager’s skill is in anticipating the consequences of each intervention.
